Offspring were a joy or a shame, but still the crown of their elders, nature's unpredictable creatures.
Achy Obejas
though excessive pride may seek for freedom, it may only see freedom in chains
Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Pride is a wound, and vanity is the scab on it. One's life picks at the scab to open the wound again and again. In men, it seldom heals and often grows septic.
Michael Ayrton
As long as kashay’s (anger, pride, deceit, greed) do not go away, you have not attained God’s religion even a little bit. Religion of the vitarags [the enlightened ones] means absence of kashay (anger, pride, deceit, greed).
Dada Bhagwan
Christianity, true Christianity, is experienced when we crucify the anger, pride, vanity and lust that dwells within ourselves and consciously replace it with the sacrificial love, humility, modesty and chasteness of the One who so many profess to believe in and follow. -Jason Neville Versey
Jason Neville Versey
We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything.
William Golding
A confessional passage has probably never been written that didn't stink a little bit of the writer's pride in having given up his pride.
J.D. Salinger
When you feel nervous, recall your pride.
Toba Beta
Whether through an outwardly prideful life of breaking the rules or an inwardly prideful life of keeping the rules, we are people who have sought to avoid Jesus and run our own lives.
Justin Buzzard
If a person starts neglecting the blessings of God and takes all God has given him as his own, then pride is inevitable
Sunday Adelaja
Men seek a great deal, but fatally close, albeit very different, is one's pride in proving oneself right with one's zeal for finding the truth.
Criss Jami
You can't take credit for your talents, but it matters that you use them. You can't really be blamed for your weaknesses, but it matters that you correct them. So pride and shame don't make a lot of sense, in the final analysis, but they weren't much fun anyway.
Sam Harris
Of course, in our train of thought, we would all like to think we're on the right track, or at least the same railroad company as the right track.
Criss Jami
It is always a pride to die as an American.
M.F. Moonzajer
The moment men begin to care more for education than for religion they begin to care more for ambition than for education. It is no longer a world in which the souls of all are equal before heaven, but a world in which the mind of each is bent on achieving unequal advantage over the other. There begins to be a mere vanity in being educated whether it be self-educated or merely state-educated. Education ought to be a searchlight given to a man to explore everything, but very specially the things most distant from himself. Education tends to be a spotlight; which is centered entirely on himself. Some improvement may be made by turning equally vivid and perhaps vulgar spotlights upon a large number of other people as well. But the only final cure is to turn off the limelight and let him realize the stars.
G.K. Chesterton
Because you're always learning, the chief lesson remains: you still know nothing.
Criss Jami
Confidence cannot escalate to arrogance, it only happens if the blood of pride is running through your veins.
Michael Bassey Johnson
One of the most difficult defilements of the spirit to deal with is the critical spirit. A critical spirit has its root in pride. Because of the 'plank' of pride in our own eye we are not capable of dealing with the 'speck' of need in someone else. We are often like the Pharisee who, completely unconscious of his own need prayed "God, I thank you that I am not like other men" (Luke 18:11). We are quick to see - and to speak of - the faults of others, but slow to see our own needs. How sweetly we relish the opportunity to speak critically of someone else - even when we are unsure of the facts. We forge that "a man who stirs up dissension among brothers" by criticizing one to another is one of the "six thing which the Lord hates" (Proverbs 6:16-19)
Jerry Bridges
We alone, of the thousands who walk this earth, we alone in this hour are doing a work which has no purpose save that we wish to do it.
Ayn Rand
Being different is a revolving door in your life where secure people enter and insecure exit.
Shannon L. Alder
We must not build up ourselves at the expense of others.
Billy Graham
I'm above crawling on my knees for certain favors. What you cannot give me: I cannot beg for it. This is not arrogance or pride. This is having a clear understanding of my self worth.‪
joseph ejiro
Evaluate yourself and your calling worthily enough and be proud of it
Sunday Adelaja
I saw only the reality of his destiny, which he had knownhow to follow with unfaltering footsteps, that life begun in humblesurroundings, rich in generous enthusiasms, in friendship, love, war--inall the exalted elements of romance.
Joseph Conrad
I have been called arrogant myself in my time, and hope to earn the title again, but to claim that I am privy to the secrets of the universe and its creator - that's beyond my conceit.
Christopher Hitchens
A session of boasting won't attract any real friends.  It will set you up on a pedestal, however, making you a clearer target.
Richelle E. Goodrich
There is a paradox in pride: it makes some men ridiculous but prevents others from becoming so.
Charles Caleb Colton
Simply minding one's own business is more offensive than being intrusive. Without ever saying a word one can make a person feel less-than.
Criss Jami
There's pride and then there's stupidity.
Robert Galbraith
Science increases our understanding in proportion as it lowers our pride.
Claude Bernard

Billy Graham
Sometimes it also helps to have a bit less pride.
Alex Flinn
There may not be an emotion more complex than the dual stations of pride. The positive connation of pride – the telluric current resulting from both natural causes and interactions of human beings – flows from the conception of applying a person’s best effort to accomplish worthwhile tasks. The negative connotation of pride refers to an inflated sense of one’s personal status or accomplishments.
Kilroy J. Oldster
Well, I must endure the presence of two or three caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies. It seems that they are very beautiful. And if not the butterflies– and the caterpillars– who will call upon me? You will be far away. . . as for the large animals– I am not at all afraid of any of them. I have my claws.”And, navely, she showed her four thorns. Then she added:“Don’t linger like this. You have decided to go away. Now go!”For she did not want him to see her crying. She was such a proud flower. . .
Antoine De Saint Exupery
In fact, the more each person can remove his or her ego from the discussion and focus on the subject matter, the more fruitful the conversation will be for all involved.
Matthew Kelly
They can talk shit about each other behind the others' backs, but when it comes down to it, money is the one true race and everyone down here is the color of greenbacks and as tall as mountains.
Richard Kadrey
The pride of man hopes but to blame God for the evils of the world, and to praise himself for the good.
Criss Jami
A distinction to which they had been born gave no pride.
Jane Austen
If there were only some way of contriving that a state or an army should be made up of lovers and their loves, they would be the very best governors of their own city, abstaining from all dishonour, and emulating one another in honour; and when fighting at each other's side, although a mere handful, they would overcome the world. For what lover would not choose rather to be seen by all mankind than by his beloved, either when abandoning his post or throwing away his arms? He would be ready to die a thousand deaths rather than endure this. Or who would desert his beloved or fail him in the hour of danger? The veriest coward would become an inspired hero, equal to the bravest, at such a time; Love would inspire him.
Plato
Don't feel better than anybody, because you feel like something. Always have it at the back of your mind that you were nothing before you became something, and that thing you supposed to be is absolutely nothing.
Michael Bassey Johnson
I remind you that I have no faith. If I sought God, I find myself.
Henry de Montherlant
Where there is a real superiority of mind, pride will be always under good regulation.
Jane Austin
When we live holy we will glorify self but when we glorify God we will live holy

The recurrence of a phenomenon like [Thomas] Edison is not very likely. The profound change of conditions and the ever increasing necessity of theoretical training would seem to make it impossible. He will occupy a unique and exalted position in the history of his native land, which might well be proud of his great genius and undying achievements in the interest of humanity.
Nikola Tesla
Although he didn't care much about any subject for its own sake, he cared a great deal about marks (grades or comparisons).
C.S. Lewis
The drums of Africa still beat in my heart. They will not let me rest while there is a single Negro boy or girl without a chance to prove his worth.
Mary McLeod Bethune
I was going to make him proud of the man I would become. I was finally going to chart my own course, rattle the stars, and then… Then I would deserve it.”“Deserve what?”“The way he used to look at me, like I was a hero, or something close to one.
Emory R. Frie
What you call pride, I call courage.
Jeff Zentner
Complete departure of kashay (anger-pride-deceit-greed) is Moksha (Liberation). At first, there is the departure of kashays and then there will be ‘that’ [Liberation].
Dada Bhagwan
It's always wrong to hate but it's never wrong to love.
Lady Gaga
Pride had rather go out of the way than go behind.
Thomas Fuller
Brag is a good dog, but Holdfast is a better.
Charles Dickens
...a guilty suffering spirit is more open to grace than an apathetic or smug soul. Therefore, an age without a sense of sin, in which people are not even sorry for not being sorry for their sins, is in a serious predicament. Likewise an age with a Christianity so eager to forgive that it denies the need for forgiveness. For such an age, therefore, Lent can scarcely be too long!
Edna Hatlestad Hong

Successes are those highlights of life we look back on with a smile. But it's the day to day grind of getting them that defines the laugh lines etched until the end of time. Enjoy each moment along the way

Sometimes I almost pity them. I think I have a freedom they cannot understand. No insult, no blame can touch me. Because I have set myself beyond the pale. I am nothing, I am hardly human any more. I am the French Lieutenant’s Whore.
John Fowles
Man is not, by nature, deserving of all that he wants. When we think that we are automatically entitled to something, that is when we start walking all over others to get it.
Criss Jami
People that hold onto hate for so long do so because they want to avoid dealing with their pain. They falsely believe if they forgive they are letting their enemy believe they are a doormat. What they don’t understand is hatred can’t be isolated or turned off. It manifests in their health, choices and belief systems. Their values and religious beliefs make adjustments to justify their negative emotions. Not unlike malware infesting a hard drive, their spirit slowly becomes corrupted and they make choices that don’t make logical sense to others. Hatred left unaddressed will crash a person’s spirit. The only thing he or she can do is to reboot, by fixing him or herself, not others. This might require installing a firewall of boundaries or parental controls on their emotions. Regardless of the approach, we are all connected on this "network of life" and each of us is responsible for cleaning up our spiritual registry.
Shannon L. Alder

Laura Ingalls Wilder
