How do we find words for describing levels of betrayal and emotional, physical, sexual and spiritual torture that fragment and destroy a child or cast and case traumatic shadows over the whole of adult life? We might, as a society, slowly find it possible to accept that one in four citizens are likely to have experience some form of emotional, psychical, sexual or spiritual abuse (McQueen, Itzin, Kennedy, Sinason, & Maxted, 2008), in itself a figure unimaginable and hidden twenty years ago. However, accepting the way a hurt and hurting parent or stranger re-enacts their disturbance with a vulnerable child or children remains far easier to digest than to consider the intellectually planned, scientific, methodical, procedures of organized child-abusing perpetrators-in other words, torture.
Valerie Sinason
Many people think that the theory of the selfish gene says that “animals try to spread their genes.” That misstates the facts and it misstates the theory. Animals, including most people, know nothing about genetics and care even less. People love their children not because they want to spread their genes (consciously or unconsciously) but because they can’t help it. That love makes them try to keep their children warm, fed, and safe. What is selfish is not the real motives of the person but the metaphorical motives of the genes that built the person. Genes “try” to spread themselves by wiring animals’ brains so the animals love their kin and try to keep warm, fed, and safe.
Steven Pinker
Modern culture anesthetizes the mind while mainlining the soul with emotional experiences that keep the worldling believing he is really living.
Jim Berg
All problems are illusions of the mind.
Eckhart Tolle
Ամբողջ մարմնի կենդանութիւնը հոգին է, իսկ մարմինն ու հոգին կառավարողը՝ միտքն է:The whole essence of the body is the spirit, while the governor of both spirit and body is the mind.
Saint Vardapet Eghishē
It is in the stillness of the mind that we perceive the heart with clarity. By constantly observing the inner weather, we steer through life wisely, steadfastly, sans regrets.
Daaji
Open the curtains of your mind! If there is light outside, it will come in; if there is light inside, it will go out! Keep the curtains open!
Mehmet Murat ildan
You may be tall; you may be short. You may be a black; you may be a white. One more thing to keep behind your mind is that you "your purpose is unique". Anyone who is thinks he is clever enough will mess up when he/she wears your shoes; it won't fit!
Israelmore Ayivor
And I was your moon because I shined brighter than any other star in your universe and you were my darkness. Without you I could not see the depth of my light and with you I could set the night a glow. So we needed one another—the dark and the light. Your fear. My courage. Connected, but separated. Different, but the same. A synergy that made no sense, but every bit of sense. We were neither a beginning, nor an end. We were somewhere in between our madness at sunset and the reality we awakened to with each sunrise. We were the ghosts of timing and fate. We were neither fantasy, nor reality--- we were a purpose somewhere in between.
Shannon L. Alder
A...reason we are so-so scientists is that our brains were shaped for fitness, not for truth. Sometimes truth is adaptive, but sometimes it is not.
Steven Pinker
We use our minds not to discover facts but to hide them. One of things the screen hides most effectively is the body, our own body, by which I mean, the ins and outs of it, its interiors. Like a veil thrown over the skin to secure its modesty, the screen partially removes from the mind the inner states of the body, those that constitute the flow of life as it wanders in the journey of each day. (p.28)
António R. Damásio
Writing blooms flowers for mind, which last forever.
Debasish Mridha
Sometimes, being true to yourself means changing your mind. Self changes, and you follow.
Vera Nazarian
Think less and feel more and see what happens.
Raphael Zernoff
When will money not come to one? It is when he speaks ill of others and scandalizes. Money will come to the one who has purity of mind, body and speech.
Dada Bhagwan
We read in bed because reading is halfway between life and dreaming, our own consciousness in someone else's mind.
Anna Quindlen
The living often don’t appreciate how complicated the world looks when you are dead, because while death frees the mind from the straitjacket of three dimensions it also cuts it away from Time, which is only another dimension. So while the cat that rubbed up against his invisible legs was undoubtedly the same cat that he had seen a few minutes before, it was also quite clearly a tiny kitten and a fat, half-blind old moggy and every stage in between. All at once. Since it had started off small it looked like a white, catshaped carrot, a description that will have to do until people invent proper four-dimensional adjectives.
Terry Pratchett
... a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.
George R.R. Martin

Learning is the way to keep your mind flowing, and hence your life flowing
Pearl Zhu
Having equipped ourselves with sophisticated living, we've lost something which is essential in its exclusivity, it's neither morals nor values, neither power nor determination, neither intelligence nor knowledge, neither warfare nor bloodshed, the uniqueness that we really lost is our capacity to THINK; Worst part is our willingness to stay with its ramifications
Ajay Chandan
We are so much distracted nowadays. There is so much distractions in the world today call it internet, media, football matches etc. but don't let it consume you.
Patience Johnson
In heart, mind, soul and spirit, we do not exist in a myriad of dissimilar forms. We are every possible form, which has existed and is yet to come. When we we enter a state of oneness, we get a sense of this, as our being. The "We" is transformed into an all-encompassing "I".
Anita B. Sulser PhD
If you lose your mind when in a large group then use someone else’s!
Stephen Richards
Life lies between the crossroads of the Nature of the Mind and the Mind of Nature.
Joey Lawsin
A beautiful smile is the prettiest ornament that you can find. Happiness is the prettiest color for your imaginative mind.
Debasish Mridha
Ego is like an antivirus which eventually takes unwanted control of the computer itself.
Saurabh Sharma
That's the way it is with the mind. Nothing is ever equal. Like a river, as it flows, the course changes with the terrain.
Haruki Murakami
Every word you’ve ever said, is written somewhere in my mind.
Crystal Woods
The greatest weapon anyone can use against us is our own mind. By preying upon the doubts and uncertainities that already lurk there. Are we true to ourselves or do we live to the expectations of others? And if we are open and honest, can we ever truly be loved? Can we find the courage to release our deepest secrets? Or in the end are we all unknowable even to ourselves.
Emily Thorne
A library is a hospital for the mind.

If the newspapers begin to publish stories about wars, and the people begin to think and talk of war in their daily conversations, they soon find themselves at war. People get that which their minds dwell upon, and this applies to a group or community or a nation of people, the same as to an individual
Andrew Carnegie
Sometimes we meet people and are so symbiotic with them, it’s as if we are one person, with one mind, one destiny.
Gayle Forman
Reason is your means of survival — so that for you, who are a human being, the question ‘to be or not to be’ is the question 'to think or not to think..'.
Ayn Rand
A mindset that understands order, is a mindset that can understand leadership.
Wayne Chirisa

Fear and self-doubt are the deadly enemies of creativity. Don’t invite either into your mind.
Don Roff
The pattern recognition theory of mind that I articulate in this book is based on a different fundamental unit: not the neuron itself, but rather an assembly of neurons, which I estimate to number around a hundred. The wiring and synaptic strengths within each unit are relatively stable and determined genetically—that is the organization within each pattern recognition module is determined by genetic design. Learning takes place in the creation of connections between these units, not within them, and probably in the synaptic strengths of the interunit connections.
Ray Kurzweil
If you're silent for a long time, people just arrive in your mind.
Alice Walker
Too much time is wasted listening to the noise of the mind - and too little is spent living from the love and power of the heart.

G.K. Chesterton
There is a succession of experiences which together constitute the educational and developmental ripening of the learner, according to the Sufis. People who think that each gain is the goal itself will freeze at any such stage, and cannot learn through successive and superseding lessons.
Idries Shah
It's a mind, it works by metaphor.
Simon J. Townley
Always being truthful gives you a certain kind of freedom. It springs forth like a fountain splashing throughout your body until it floods your soul. To be honest and to be trustworthy are great attributes. Ah, the power, Ah, the freedom
Amaka Imani Nkosazana
When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves it is useless to seek it elsewhere.
François de La Rochefoucauld
What frightened me most was, I could no longer believe in my own life as a story. Everyone needs a story, a part to play in order to avoid the realization that life is without significance. How else do any of us survive? It’s what makes life bearable, even interesting. When it becomes neither, people say you’ve lost the plot. Or just lost it.

When you use positive words it naturally has a very dynamic effect on the energy present around you.
Stephen Richards
No two human beings are alike; it's a question of identity. And what is identity? The cognitive system arisin' from the aggregate memories of that individual's past experiences. The layman's word for this is the mind. Not two human beings have the same mind. At the same time, human beings have almost no grasp of their own cognitive systems. I don't, you don't, nobody does. All we know—or think we know—is but a fraction of the whole cake. A mere tip of the icing.
Haruki Murakami
