You know how writers are... they create themselves as they create their work. Or perhaps they create their work in order to create themselves.
Orson Scott Card
Days become weeks. Weeks become months. Month become years. And years become silence.
Christy Hall
When first I set eyes on The Isle of Wight Polar Bear, my world was filled, in that instant, with the magic and wonder of childhood - Suzy Davies, Author, "Snugs The Snow Bear
Suzy Davies
I don’t do math.
Buffy Andrews
The Bible is the greatest book ever written.
Lailah Gifty Akita
In my experience, writers tend to be really good at the inside of their own heads and imaginary people, and a lot less good at the stuff going on outside, which means that quite often if you flirt with us we will completely fail to notice, leaving everybody involved slightly uncomfortable and more than slightly unlaid. So I would suggest that any attempted seduction of a writer would probably go a great deal easier for all parties if you sent them a cheerful note saying "YOU ARE INVITED TO A SEDUCTION: Please come to dinner on Friday Night, Wear the kind of clothes you would like to be seduced in."And alcohol may help, too. Or kissing. Many writers figure out that they're being seduced or flirted with if someone is actually kissing them.
Neil Gaiman
The writer's only responsibility is to his art. He will be completely ruthless if he is a good one. He has a dream. It anguishes him so much he must get rid of it. He has no peace until then. Everything goes by the board: honor, pride, decency, security, happiness, all, to get the book written. If a writer has to rob his mother, he will not hesitate; the 'Ode on a Grecian Urn' is worth any number of old ladies.
William Faulkner
When love writes a letter, joy is its ink.
Matshona Dhliwayo
A good writer possesses not only his own spirit but also the spirit of his friends.
Friedrich Nietzsche
A writer should feel deeply from his heart of the joys and sorrows of people. And he must write as honestly as possible. Then only can he claim to be a writer.
Avijeet Das
I quote others in order to better express my own self.
Michel de Montaigne
The world is a woven basket. Every stitch counts.
A.D. Posey
This time it was the sentence opening the last part of a story I had worked on for months: a sentence as is often worked off paper first. The pace of narrative and interest in character do not readily help the writer's hand to set down a sentence of that order. For though characters must take things in their own stride – somewhere in his story the writer cannot hold back this sentence that judges them. He wants it unobtrusive to his pace and the characters that caused him to write. The difficulty is to judge without seeming to be there, with a finality in the words that will make them casual and part of the story itself, except perhaps to another age.
Louis Zukofsky
Your only responsibility as a writer is to be true to the story that has chosen you as its writer.
Jean Little
Many writers, especially male ones, have told us that it is the decease of the father which opens the prospect of one's own end, and affords an unobstructed view of the undug but awaiting grave that says 'you're next.' Unfilial as this may seem, that was not at all so in my own case. It was only when I watched Alexander [my own son] being born that I knew at once that my own funeral director had very suddenly, but quite unmistakably, stepped onto the stage. I was surprised by how calmly I took this, but also by how reluctant I was to mention it to my male contemporaries.
Christopher Hitchens
In retrospect we can only be thankful to all the mistakes that we made and to all the lessons that we learned from them!
Avijeet Das
Fundamentally all writing is about the same thing: it's about dying about the brief flicker of time we have here and the frustrations that it creates.
Mordecai Richler
Some writers aren't writers, they are mere escapees' and refugees' on an exile from the jungle of thoughts.
Michael Bassey Johnson
Explore your own peace.
A.D. Posey
...bow to genius, but to the authority of that genius - not the display of talent...
John Geddes
The obscure, unexplainable aspect of the writing process is about how some rhymes appear in your head. It often feels more like tuning in to some kind of channel than composing words in your mind.
Sahara Sanders
Now as through this world I ramble I see lots of funny men Some rob you with a six gun Some with a fountain pen.
Woody Guthrie
Chaos is nothing more than beauty about to dance.
A.D. Posey
Life is painful and disappointing. It is useless, therefore, to write new realistic novels. We generally know where we stand in relation to reality and don’t care to know any more.
Michel Houellebecq
If writers wrote as carelessly as some people talk, then adhasdh asdglaseuyt[bn[ pasdlgkhasdfasdf.
Lemony Snicket
Think of Shakespeare and Melville and you think of thunder, lightning, wind. They all knew the joy of creating in large or small forms, on unlimited or restricted canvases. These are the children of the gods.
Ray Bradbury
Let your writing liberate you. Write with passion to allow your feelings to breathe and enjoy the journey across blank pages.
Amitav Chowdhury
When you write a manuscript, it feels like being in a relationship with someone. You'll hate it, get bored with it, be pissed of, like you just want to break up. But, just like any relationship, you will fall in love again and again, like you don't want to lose it.
Alvi Syahrin
We are inspired by divine power to write.
Lailah Gifty Akita
Every reader finds himself. The writer's work is merely a kind of optical instrument that makes it possible for the reader to discern what, without this book, he would perhaps never have seen in himself.
Marcel Proust
I am the penny whistle of American literature.
Nelson Algren
A writer is never alone, he is always with himself
Bangambiki Habyarimana
One day I will write a book. An epitaph
Bangambiki Habyarimana
Beauty and truth may be attributes of good writing but if the writer deliberately aims at truth he is likely to find that what he has hit is the didactic.
Northrop Frye
There is nothing harder to estimate than a writer's time, nothing harder to keep track of. There are moments—moments of sustained creation—when his time is fairly valuable; and there are hours and hours when a writer's time isn't worth the paper he is not writing anything on.
E B White
There is an accuracy that defeats itself by the overemphasis of details. I often say that one must permit oneself and quite advisedly and deliberately a certain margin of misstatement.
Benjamin N. Cardozo
Another drink, another sentence, and the writing continues on. . . .
Dennis R. Miller
Epiphanies awaken the soul.
A.D. Posey
Look upon the world with wonder.
A.D. Posey
They were learning that New York had another life, too — subterranean, like almost everything that was human in the city — a life of writers meeting in restaurants at lunchtime or in coffee houses after business hours to talk of work just started or magazines unpublished, and even to lay modest plans for the future. Modestly they were beginning to write poems worth the trouble of reading to their friends over coffee cups. Modestly they were rebelling once more.
Malcolm Cowley
The world is with you.
A.D. Posey
Writers remember everything...especially the hurts. Strip a writer to the buff, point to the scars, and he'll tell you the story of each small one. From the big ones you get novels. A little talent is a nice thing to have if you want to be a writer, but the only real requirement is the ability to remember the story of every scar.Art consists of the persistence of memory.
Stephen King
If I can write, who possibly can’t. Even drawing a line in the sand is writing
Bangambiki Habyarimana
Writing when perched along a ledge of conscious awareness while simultaneously giving voice to the unconscious voice tumbling within allows a writer to tap into the external world of the known while also exploring the unconscious world of the unknown and the unknowable. For as long as I can stand the mounting pressure, I dance along this tremulous thin line separating sanity and insanity, mediating the conflicts between a lucid intellect and an impulsive, instinctual nature. Captivated in this submerged psyche space, disengaged from conscious tether of personal identity, and free from the jaundiced constraints and dictatorial commands of rational logic, I operate unencumbered by preconceived limitations.
Kilroy J. Oldster
It is usually unbearably painful to read a book by an author who knows way less than you do, unless the book is a novel.
Mokokoma Mokhonoana
A writer can do without food for a few hours, but not without the sight of books.
Pawan Mishra
Once you realize life is magic, you will never look upon the world with dimmed eyes again.
A.D. Posey
How are you supposed to know what to read next? This is the question that keeps us up at night, so at Day One our mission is to feed an audience of literature-hungry, time-constrained readers like you with a weekly lineup of talented authors, poets, and artists that we believe you will love. And if we can identify some of the next generation of literary stars, and cultivate an appreciation for transformative poetry and fiction, then frankly we will sleep better at night.
Carmen Johnson
This morning I took out a comma and this afternoon I put it back again.
Oscar Wilde
One day, your light will silence the darkness, and you will be surrounded by the beauty within.

Brandt Legg
The universe is made of stories, not of atoms.
