I have gained wisdom from leaning into my pain, in not allowing the hounds of hell to snap at my heels anymore. Now I turn around, call them by name, and let them know I am prepared to fight.
Steve Austin
Conceit spoils the finest genius. There is not much danger that real talent or goodness will be overlooked long even if it is the consciousness of possessing and using it well should satisfy one.
Louisa May Alcott

J.D. Salinger
Some pursue happiness others create it.

If you celebrate your differentness, the world will, too. It believes exactly what you tell it—through the words you use to describe yourself, the actions you take to care for yourself, and the choices you make to express yourself. Tell the world you are one-of-a-kind creation who came here to experience wonder and spread joy. Expect to be accommodated.
Victoria Moran
When you submit yourself to God and obey Him, you allow Him to do what He desires in your life. You make it possible for Him to lead you wherever He wants to use you.
Jim George

Great faith, Great spirit.
Lailah Gifty Akita
Barry Schlenker’s self-identity theory (1982) asserts that self-presentation is an attempt to control information about your identity before real or imagined audiences—including yourself. People try to provide explanations of their own conduct; they try to construct an identity that is satisfying to themselves and that explains their behavior in a favorable light. One of the criteria of a good explanation is believability; that is, explanations must fit with existing knowledge. Schlenker argues that people are not motivated to attain cognitive consistency as an end in itself; rather, they need to provide a believable and self -beneficial account of their conduct, and consistency is a by-product of that. The need to provide explanations for your conduct results in the construction of an internally consistent view of reality.
James Kennedy
Elza needed challenges in her life, needed to be occupied. Without walls to climb or windmills to attack she was the type of person who became depressed. She knew this. The feeling lived inside her somewhere - probably nestled close to her solar plexus. Yes, it seemed like that was the case. She felt it right in her chest. So, to escape dwelling on her anxieties - which she was prone to do - Elza lived in a state of perpetual movement. If she slowed down or was obstructed, even for a moment, she would suffer being left alone with herself, and then all would be lost.
Mark Fitter
He who conquers others is strong he who conquers himself is mighty.
Lao Tzu
Change must start from the individual. And the individual must want and feel ready to make such change.
Efrat Cybulkiewicz

Susan B. Anthony

To understand God we must understand ourselves. If I give you an apple and ask you, “What is that?” you reply, “An apple.”“How do you know it’s an apple?”“Because it just is.”“How did it get to be an apple?”“It came from an apple.”“Exactly. So when I ask you, ‘What are you?’ you can honestly say, ‘I am a child of God because I came from God.
Toni Sorenson
Temptations come as a general rule when they are sought.
Margaret Oliphant

Dag Hammarskjöld

Robert Hand
Our entire life ... consists ultimately in accepting ourselves as we are.
Jean Anouilh
Her name had the likeness of a name. She had the likeness of a woman, with hands but no face at all, since she never let herself see it. She had the likeness of a life, because she was all alone in it. She lived in the likeness of a house, with walls and a roof and a door that kept nothing in and nothing out.
Marilynne Robinson
I think it is best to know what you are and make peace with it.
Sarah McCarry
Love, the exotic bird, came and went.Heart forgot love.Joy, the majestic willow, wept and died.Mind forgot joy.Hope, the basement lamp, fell and broke.Soul forgot hope.Self, the anxious caterpillar, took flight and dropped.Self forgot self. You, my all, became all my reasons.Reasons left. You left.I never forgot.
Kamand Kojouri
People have unlatched the energies of the worldly self (jiv shakti), but they have not unlatched the energies of Real Self (shiv shakti).
Dada Bhagwan
You'll never understand me as long as you're looking at me through society's lenses.
Robert Tew
The outside world can only trigger or block your experience of your true nature. Each time something beautiful takes your breath away, that’s you experiencing yourself. Each time you fall in love with someone, that’s you experiencing yourself. Each time a child’s smile gives you unspeakable joy, that’s you experiencing yourself. Your true nature is beautiful. Life is the art of rediscovering yourself, again and again, in different forms, celebrating, rejoicing, welcoming. You are beautiful. You are life itself.
Vironika Tugaleva
Every man carries with him through life a mirror, as unique and impossible to get rid of as his shadow.
W.H. Auden
Seek the spirituality of your soul.
Lailah Gifty Akita
Don't build yourself an ivory tower" the moralists say. But I am an ivory tower by the mere fact that I am. On the crude physical level the body is a frame of (ivory) bones on which the muscles are stretched, crowned by an (ivory) bone pill-box turret housing the brain — shielding it from the blows of 'reality' so that it can get on with its absurd work undisturbed. On the non-physical level my I-ness is an ivory tower of orderly individual views and vistas shielding 'me' from being swallowed up in chaos. Dear moralists: don't they see that life is a constant flight up and down the endless steps of the dark ivory tower seeking to escape from the horrid chaos of real freedom?
Nanamoli Thera
Anya looked upon Nin admirably. Having him as a partner-in-crime—if only on this one occasion, which she hoped would only be the start of something more—was more revitalizing than the cheap thrills of a cookie-cutter shallow, superficial romance, where the top priority was how beautiful a person was on the outside.
Jess C. Scott
It’s the angle. You can’t see me from where you’re standing.
Susan Rieger
He can inspire a group only if he himself is filled with confidence and hope of success.
Floyd V. Filson
You are who you are when nobody's watching.
Stephen Fry
The people around you are mirrors, I think. You see yourself reflected in their eyes. If the mirror is true, and smooth, you see your true self. That’s how you learn who you are.
Caitlin Moran
The man who cannot believe in himself cannot believe in anything else.
Roy L. Smith
When the ‘right belief’ occurs, the world will appear quite different. ‘Right belief’ will take one towards the Eternal (Self), and the ‘wrong belief’ will take one towards the worldly life.
Dada Bhagwan
The happy man is he who knows his limitations yet bows to no false gods.
Robert W. Service
My sense of self hinges upon the belief that what I do matters. That belief has compelled me to venture far from home life, and to immerse myself in the lives of strangers in the hope that my work will have an impact and connect people in some intangible way, that I can contribute some greater good.
Finbarr O'Reilly
I've always tried to go a step past wherever people expected me to end up.
Beverly Sills
Put your trust in God my boys and keep your powder dry!
Valentine Blacker
This is the gist of what I know: Give advice and buy a foe.
Phyllis McGinley
There is a widespread belief about quantum mechanics, as also about relativity, that it is something that one is entitled to ignore for most ordinary philosophical and scientific purposes, since it only seriously applies at the micro level of reality; where 'micro' means something far smaller than would show up in any conventional microscope. What sits on top of this micro level, so the assumption runs, is a sufficiently good approximation of the old classical Newtonian picture to justify our continuing, as philosophers, to think about the world in essentially classical terms. I believe this to be a fundamental mistake. What I shall be arguing...is that the world is quantum-mechanical through and through; and that the classical picture of reality is, even at the microscopic level, deeply inadequate.
Stephen T. DeBerry
If you can't change your fate change your attitude.
Amy Tan
We sit to make life meaningful. The significance of our life is not experienced in striving to create some perfect thing. We must simply start with accepting ourselves. Sitting brings us back to actually who and where we are. This can be very painful. Self-acceptance is the hardest thing to do. If we can’t accept ourselves, we are living in ignorance, this darkest night. We may still be awake, but we don’t know where we are. We cannot see. The mind has no light. Practice is this candle in our very darkest room.
Kobun Chino Otogawa Roshi
And I'm made up of everyone I've ever met who's changed the way I think. So who is "me"?
Terry Pratchett
But do you imagine there’s a certain type of person in the world who conforms to the idea of a ‘bad person'? You’ll never find someone who fits that mold neatly, you know. On the whole, all people are good, or at least they’re normal. The frightening thing is that they can suddenly turn bad when it comes to the crunch. That’s why you have to be careful.
Sōseki Natsume
...to know an other's interior life you are his confessor or a writer - the one is admitted freely, the other intrudes by discerning of spirits
John Geddes
We live in our tales of ourselves, she thought, and ignore as best we can the contradictions, and the lapses, and the abrasions of plot against our mortal souls...
Gregory Maguire
Feeding the ego is starving the wisdom, the choice is yours.
Efrat Cybulkiewicz
But there was in the air that kind of distortion that bent you a little; it caused your usual self to grow slippery, to wander off and shop, to get blurry, bleed, bevel with possibility.
Lorrie Moore
When you are filled with self-hate your mind is reversed. Meaning you will love the things that destroy you, and you will hate the things that advance your growth.
Amos N. Wilson
Believing in our hearts that who we are is enough is the key to a more satisfying and balanced life.
Ellen Sue Stern
We define our identity always in dialogue with, sometimes in struggle against, the things our significant others want to see in us. Even after we outgrow some of these others—our parents, for instance—and they disappear from our lives, the conversation with them continues within us as long as we live.
Charles Taylor
