I am shocked to find that some people think a 2 star 'I liked it' rating is a bad rating. What? I liked it. I LIKED it! That means I read the whole thing, to the last page, in spite of my life raining comets on me. It's a good book that survives the reading process with me. If a book is so-so, it ends up under the bed somewhere, or maybe under a stinky judo bag in the back of the van. So a 2 star from me means, yes, I liked the book, and I'd loan it to a friend and it went everywhere in my jacket pocket or purse until I finished it. A 3 star means that I've ignored friends to finish it and my sink is full of dirty dishes. A 4 star means I'm probably in trouble with my editor for missing a deadline because I was reading this book. But I want you to know . . . I don't finish books I don't like. There's too many good ones out there waiting to be found. Robin Hobb, author
Robin Hobb
Get someone-anyone-to read books to you. Having books read to you at any age is the supremo ultimato of living.
Carew Papritz
You can be a writer who doesn't read everyday. But you're not fooling anyone. It shows, rather embarrassingly, in your work.
Don Roff
When we read books or acquire information about personal development even when we are mentally, emotionally, spiritually and/or physically healthy, we accumulate the personal inner tools that can save our minds from the negative consequences of a bad day.
Dr. Jacinta Mpalyenkana
Never judge a book by its movie.
J.W. Eagan
We live to read.
Lailah Gifty Akita
Why do you want to read anyway – for the sake of amusement or mere erudition? Those are poor, fatuous pretexts. Reading should serve the goal of attaining peace; if it doesn’t make you peaceful, what good is it?
Epictetus
Read what you find interesting, and then follow your interests. You'll find that in doing so you always generate enough to illuminate the next step.
Mark Helprin
Long books, when read, are usually overpraised, because the reader wishes to convince others and himself that he has not wasted his time.
E.M. Forster
The most comfortable place for a tired mind is in the lap of a book.
Aman Jassal
Reading a book is like living a deep and fulfilling life. Watching a movie is like being a paralyzed person: watching others live their lives while you observe from the sidelines.
Charbel Tadros
A program of active reading and writing might be the hardest form of thinking, but it is also the most organized methodology of self-education. Reading exposes the mind to a world of ideas heretofore unimaginable and encourages the novice learner to write. Reading is a form a joint mediation and writing represents the product of several authors’ collective and collaborative minds at work.
Kilroy J. Oldster
She'd become an English major for the purest and dullest of reasons: because she loved to read.
Jeffrey Eugenides
when you read once, you get the understanding ; when you read twice, you get the second understanding. Don't just read, read!
Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Read a good book every day. Books help to educate the soul. The mere joy of learning something new will instill the will to live in you.
Sanchita Pandey
There is no such thing as a bad book, I just like some books more than others…
Chris Geiger
Reading should serve the goal of attaining peace; if it doesn’t make you peaceful, what good is it?
Epictetus
At both school and at home, I lost myself in books.
Daniel D. Maurer
Paris without a good book is like a pretty girl with only one eye.
Naomi Wood
If you don't love what you write, then nobody's going to enjoy reading it.
T.A. Uner
Read whatever book you lay your hands on if you can, for every writer has a story to tell
Bangambiki Habyarimana
Reading and writing dangerous books lets me be who I can't be and say what I can't say in everyday life.
Carla H. Krueger
Reading is a breezy journey to enjoy, not a whirlwind to escape!
Balroop Singh
Read. Read until your eyes are sore. Then read some more.
Lisa Bloom
Never read a book that is not a year old.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
It is equally important to learn from experience and from books.
Eraldo Banovac
I cannot call somebody ‘hard-working’ knowing only that they read and write. Even if ‘all night long’ is added, I cannot say it – not until I know the focus of all this energy.
Epictetus
Reading and writing are solitary activities that increase a person’s capacity for concentration, awareness, and conceptual thought as the person weaves immediate information with stored memories.
Kilroy J. Oldster
Just like a constant diet of fast food makes us flabby, so too a constant intake of social media to the neglect of books and thoughtful meditation will make our brains flabby. So if you find it difficult to read more than five pages at a time, or you find yourself falling asleep as soon as you crack open a book, that is a sign that you should be putting in the work that it takes to be an active reader.
Aimee Byrd
Reading's ability to beam you up to a different world is a good part of the reason why people like me do it in the first place---because dollar for dollar, hour per hour, it's the most expedient way to get from our proscribed little "here" to an imagined, intriguing there". Part time machine, part Concorde, part ejector seat, books are our salvation.
Sara Nelson
‎"Since I could only take six books per visit from the library, I had to time it right, or I'd be stuck on Sundays rereading the five Reader's Digest Condensed Books sitting on our red laquered living room shelf.
Randy Susan Meyers
Maybe reading was just a way to make her feel less alone, to keep her company. When you read something you are stopped, the moment is stayed, you can sometimes be there more fully than you can in your real life.
Helen Humphreys
When I began writing The Night Bookmobile, it was a story about a woman's secret life as a reader. As I worked it also became a story about the claims that books place on their readers, the imbalance between our inner and outer lives, a cautionary tale of the seductions of the written word. It became a vision of the afterlife as a library, of heaven as a funky old camper filled with everything you've ever read. What is this heaven? What is it we desire from the hours, weeks, lifetimes we devote to books? What would you sacrifice to sit in that comfy chair with perfect light for an afternoon in eternity, reading the perfect book, forever?
Audrey Niffenegger
I am what I have ever read
Bangambiki Habyarimana
Every reader wants the same thing: to open the cover of a book and watch the words explode like fireworks off the page.
Kim Lehman
Later that night though, as I stayed awake into the early hours of morning devouring the second novel in a series, I understood what it meant to befriend a book. The books knew me, far better than I knew them; they knew my fears, my doubts, my dreams. They gave words to feelings I did not even realize I experienced. They listened. They consoled. They kept me company. The books gave me a life outside of my own.
Kelseyleigh Reber
I go back to the reading room, where I sink down in the sofa and into the world of The Arabian Nights. Slowly, like a movie fadeout, the real world evaporates. I'm alone, inside the world of the story. My favourite feeling in the world.
Haruki Murakami
A book is not complete till it reaches a reader.
Aman Jassal
Every morning I tell myself, "I'll sleep early tonight." And every night I say, "One more chapter.
Joyce Rachelle
I am lost in the world of books. So many books to read.
Lailah Gifty Akita
Your story must told.Live a life legacy- written book or notes. This will be there for many generations to know your rich experiences and knowledge.
Lailah Gifty Akita
Desultory reading is delightful, but to be beneficial, our reading must be carefully directed.
Seneca
An entire life spent reading would have fulfilled my every desire; I already knew that at the age of seven. The texture of the world is painful, inadequate; unalterable, or so it seems to me. Really, I believe that an entire life spent reading would have suited me best.
Michel Houellebecq
The world of books is my fantasy.
Lailah Gifty Akita
A series of books, dilapidated and faded, sit bundled together. Most of the bindings are separating from the yellowed pages, but each is at home in its battered state. Their wrinkled pages and discolored skin tell not of old age, but of a good life. These books, unlike so many others, were not just read, but revisited, loved, and experienced.
Kelseyleigh Reber
To live in books is cowardly---but people are not worth investigation.
Lily Koppel
If you don't find a good teacher, find a good book.
Amit Kalantri
I love words.  I crave descriptions that overwhelm my imagination with vivid detail.  I dwell on phrases that make my heart thrum.  I cherish expressions that pierce my emotions and force the tears to spill over.   In essence, I long for a writer's soul sealed in ink on the page.
Richelle E. Goodrich
Language spread its warm, absurd rays over all my adolescent thoughts, and I felt the way we all long to feel: moody, lonely, lovesick and explosive with the prospects of tomorrow.
Spencer Gordon
Welcome to Book-a-holic Anonymous.Hi, I'm Jazz and I am addicted to the written word. I love the smell of the blackest ink sliding across texture paper. My eyes squint against the loss of time within the pages of story. I don't think there's a cure for my compulsion to lose myself within life and times of those characters bound between the covers.
Jazz Feylynn
With a book he was regardless of time...
Jane Austen
I exercised my mental muscles in the library, and lo and behold, I transformed myself from a casual reader into a focused one. So it was more than just free books, but also free space and a culture that reinforced settling down, deep reading, thinking, imagining, and exploring with my mind. I am no doubt a writer today because I had a place to go as a kid, where I knew stories were essential, and where everybody also reveled in the wonder within books.
Sergio Troncoso
If you have read 6,000 books in your lifetime, or even 600, it's probably because at some level you find 'reality' a bit of a disappointment.
Joe Queenan
An entire life spent reading would have fulfilled my every desire; I already knew that at the age of seven. The texture of the world is painful, inadequate; unalterable, or so it seems to me. Really, I believe that an entire life spent reading would have suited me best. Such a life has not been granted me...
Michel Houellebecq
Books are more to treasure than cars.
Lailah Gifty Akita
I, on the other hand, believe that books, maps, scissors, and Scotch tape dispensers are all unreliable vagrants, likely to take off for parts unknown unless strictly confined to quarters.
Anne Fadiman
Instead, I read books in the library, huddling on a bean bag in a corner and getting lost in somebody else's victories and troubles. I never had much time for fiction before. I preferred real life. Mathematics. Solutions. Things that actually have a bearing on my life. But I can understand now why people read, why they like to get lost in somebody else's life. Sometimes I'll read a sentence and it will make me sit up, jolt me, because it is something that I have recently felt but never said out loud. I want to reach into the page and tell the characters that I understand them, that they are not alone, that I'm not alone, that it's okay to feel like this. And then the lunch bell rings the book closes and I'm plunged back into reality.
Cecelia Ahern
There is no other escape like a book. Reading expands your mind and opens your world to a myriad of possibilities.
Fran Veal
An intelligent, informed mind is more powerful than a loaded gun.
Dr. Jacinta Mpalyenkana
More than the painting you see or the music you hear, the words you read become in the very act of reading them part of who you are, especially if they are the words of exceptionally promising writers. If there is poison in the words, you are poisoned; if there is nourishment, you are nourished; if there is beauty, you are made a little more beautiful. In Hebrew, the word dabar means both word and also deed. A word doesn’t merely say something, it does something. It brings something into being.
Frederick Buechner
